Program Description

Literary theory asks what literature is, how meaning is produced, and how readers, language, ideology and history shape interpretation. Students engage with schools of thought from formalism and structuralism to psychoanalytic, feminist and postcolonial criticism. Graduates often move into research, teaching, publishing, criticism and cultural work.
